Location

One of the most beautiful islands of Cyclades, Naxos is located in the centre of the Aegean Sea. It distinguishes for the crystal beaches, the traditional villages, the natural beauty and the historical sightseeing. The capital and main port of Naxos is Chora, a lovely village with medieval architecture. The first thing to see as the ferry approaches the island is Portara, a marble gate that is the only remaining of the ancient temple of Apollo, dating from the 6th century B.C.

Other ancient sights in Naxos include the temple of Demeter close to Sangri, the sanctuary of Dionysus in Iria and the two statues of Kouros (male figures) that can be seen close to the villages of Melanes and Apollonas. The most beautiful beaches of Naxos are located on the western side of the island and include Agios Prokopios, Agios Georgios, Plaka, Agia Anna, Mikri Vigla and Orkos. These are sandy beaches with exotic blue water. These beaches are great for diving, windsurfing and other water sports.
